ENDODONTIC (ROOT CANAL THERAPY) POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS

  • Please wait to do any eating or drinking until numbness from anesthetic for the procedure has worn off.
  • Try to chew on the opposite side of your mouth for the next few days as well as avoid any hard or sticky foods such as candy, peanuts, gum, chips, etc. that may irritate the healing tooth.
  • Taking pain medication prescribed such as ibuprofen (advil) or Tylenol (acetaminophen) is recommended to maintain any discomfort.  If antibiotics were prescribed please take them until they are all gone.
  • Discomfort/soreness is normal for a few days (up to 2 weeks).      Discomfort will not affect a successful outcome. But, if pain/swelling is severe or persists please let our office know. 
  • Continue to floss and brush as normal. 
  • Rinse with warm salt water (1tsp salt per 1cup water) to help soothe and cleanse the area as needed.
  • Typically after RCT is completed, a permanent crown is required for preserving the tooth for longevity.
